THE OLYMPIC TORCH IS COMING BACK TO THE ROCKIES

We are very excited to be welcoming the Olympic Torch back in Canmore. As hosts of the nordic events in the 1988 Olympics, we had this honour once before and are looking forward to the thrill of bringing the Olympic flame back to the Canadian Rockies!!

As we prepare to host the world in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, we will get started with festivities on January 20th. Come celebrate with us as people ski and run with the torch through Canmore!!

Kid activities begin at 10 noon - with a variety of fun stuff like:

  • Winter Olympic Demos
  • 1988 Winter Olympic Legacy Display brought to us by the Canmore Museum
  • Snow Shoe Relays with White Mountain Adventure

At 12:30 you can enjoy a traditional maple syrup treat as Chez Francois' Francois and Sylvie show us how to make the all-time winter favourite maple syrup taffy.

At 1 pm experience native dancing and drumming - always a special affair!

The community celebration gets started at 2 pm at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club where - our community torch representative will be disclosed! Then the stage show begins with great local performances for people of all ages.

The torch will be arriving at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club at 3 pm and will be moving on to the Canmore Nordic Centre around 4 pm. Come cheer on our Nordic Athletes!

Parking will be provided at the Canmore Provincial Building at 700 Railway Ave. Handicapped parking is located at Burnco beside the Canmore Collegiate High School.
