ANNUAL ICE MAGIC INTERNATIONAL ICE SCULPTURE COMPETITION Dates: January 22 – 24, 2010 Location: At the lake in Lake Louise Watch talented teams of ice sculptors from all over the world work their magic on 300 lbs of ice down at the lake at Lake Louise! If you can't make it during the actual competition, the works of art do last a while, if the weather cooperates!! 2009's Theme: Rhythm Of Nature Within The Canadian Rockies!! What will be the theme for the 2010 competition? For information call: (403) 762-6100 or click Chamber Music in Canmore. THE 93th ANNUAL BANFF WINTER FESTIVAL Dates: January 22 - 31, 2010 Location: Banff Join us in this 9-day celebration of winter! You won't want to miss the Annual Mountain Madness Relay usually held on the Friday, where teams of five race from the top of Mount Norquay all the way to Banff's Central Park. Family fun is also plentiful with such activities as cardboard sled racing, snowshoeing, an iron chef challenge, spelling bee to mention just a few! FEBRUARY CANMORE WINTER CARNIVAL Dates: January 20th - February 7th, 2010 Location: Canmore The winter carnival usually lasts 10 days every year and is a great time to celebrate life in the mountains with lots of mountain activities such as the Trappers' Ball, Kid n' Mutt races, the Grab A Slab ice carving competition, log sawing competitions and beard growing contests. You won't want to miss the Mayor's Sled Dog Challenge where Canmore's Mayor Ron Casey will race the Mayors of other communities on the Pond right after the Kid n Mutt races. FAMILY DAY Date: Alberta Holiday, Monday, February 15, 2010 Location: Banff Family Day is the name of a statutory holiday in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February each year. Come to Banff and enjoy Family Day festivities. THE ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL SLED DOG CANMORE CLASSIC Date: Usually in February - IT WAS CANCELLED FOR 2009! Location: Canmore Nordic Centre If you want to get involved in returning the races to Canmore for 2010 contact us or call 609-2134. Now this is something you won't get to see very often! Watch dog teams sprint to victory at the Canmore Nordic Centre! Skijoring is also a possibility! There is free parking with free shuttle service from downtown Canmore. More info at www.canmoresleddograces.com The 33 ANNUAL KANANASKIS SKI MARATHON "Cookie Race" Date:Saturday, February 27, 2010 Location: Kananaskis, Alberta The Kananaskis Ski Marathon is a “loppet”, a cross-country ski race open to the public, emphasizing participation, personal challenge, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and fun. Compete and earn beverages, hot soup, and of course home-made cookies, hence “the Cookie Race”! For more info go to www.foothillsnordic.ca. “GRAB A SLAB” Canmore Ice Carving Event Dates: TBA Location: Civic Centre Plaza, Canmore This annual ice-carving event is for anyone who would like to give this unique craft a try. Please bring your own files, chisels and any other tools to show off your creativity on two blocks of ice. The entry fee is usually $20. KID'N MUTT RACES Date: TBA Time: TBA Location: Policeman Creek Pond (10 Street and 7 Avenue) This is great family fun! If you just don't want to sit back and watch the races - remember to bring your own mutt! There is usually a $5 registration fee. MARCH MOUNTAIN CABIN QUILTERS - ANNUAL QUILT SHOW DATE: March 5-23, 2010 LOCATION: Canmore Public Library Art Gallery, 950 – 8th Avenue HEY all you quilters!! Come visit the Canmore Public Library Art Gallery as the Mountain Cabin Quilters host their annual Quilters Artistic Visions Show. Get some inspiration from all of the original and beautiful designs. JULY CANADA DAY PARADE AND CELEBRATION Date: July 1, 2010 Location: Centennial Park Start celebrating Canada's Birthday with a pancake breakfast and a parade down Main Street. After you've gotten your picture taken with a Mountie, you can enjoy music, food and fun at Centennial Park, and to end your special day in the mountains, a beautiful dusk fireworks display at dusk. CANMORE'S MINERS' DAY Date: Possibly July 10, 2010 Location: Main Street Celebrate Canmore's mining history by honouring the mining families! This little parade takes place on the Saturday closest to Canmore's last day of mining which was July 13, 1979. 24 HOURS OF ADRENALINE™ - MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE Date: July 24, 2010 Location: Canmore Nordic Centre 24 Hours of Adrenalin is a greuling annual relay, where solo riders or teams of up to ten people compete to ride as many laps as they can in the 24-Hour time period. Come and cheer or take part in the Canmore event of this North American mountain bike series! JULY/AUGUST CANMORE FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL Dates: July 31, 2010 - August 2, 2010 Location: Centennial Park Come for the weekend and take part in Alberta’s longest running Folk Music Festival! There is something for young and old with fun activities, good food and superb music!
