ANNUAL ICE MAGIC INTERNATIONAL ICE SCULPTURE COMPETITION
Date: January 25 - January 27, 2008
Location: At the lake in Lake Louise
Watch talented teams of ice sculptors from all over the world work their magic on 300 lbs of ice down at the lake at Lake Louise! If you can't make it during the actual competition, the works of art do last a while, if the weather cooperates!! 2008's Theme: Snow Queen, Ice Fairies and the Enchanted Forest!!

ONE CARVER, ONE BLOCK, ONE HOUR COMPETITION
Date: Saturday, January 26, 3:30 – 6:00 pm
Location: Lake Louise Inn
If you'd like to try your hand at ice sculpting go down to the Lake Louise Inn, where teams of ten see if they can carve up a block into something grand in only one hour! Just want to watch? Enjoy some wine tasting and appetizers.
LITTLE CHIPPERS ICE CARVING
Date: Saturday, January 26, 11 am - 3 pm
Location: Samson Mall, Lake Louise Village
Bring the kids to the Little Chippers Enchanted Forest at Samson Mall in the Village and let them chip away for prizes! (Our daughter won last year with a very icy angel!! Saftey goggles and tools provided!) They will also get to see a dog sled up close and learn some interesting facts with the interpretive activities led by Parks Canada. Did I mention the hot chocolate and cookies?
TEDDY BEARS PICNIC
Date: Saturday, January 26, and Sunday January 27, 1 - 3 pm
Location: Baker Creek Chalets
Go for a winter picnic and live ice carving demonstration at the Baker Creek Chalets. The kids will get to slide down a snow slide and word has it that the first 100 children receive a stuffed bear! You can't beat that!

ALBERTA WORLD CUP CROSS COUNTRY 2008
Date: January 22 - 26, 2008
Location: Canmore Nordic Centre
Canmore loves cross country skiing! Just ask Beckie Scott, Sara Renner and Chandra Crawford who were all winners at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics! Come to North America's only World Cup race in 2008 and watch four cross country ski races (female and male in pursuit, sprint classic, free technique and sprint free) which are to be held at the newly renovated Canmore Nordic Centre in Canmore.
THE 90th ANNUAL BANFF WINTER FESTIVAL
Dates: January 26 - February 4, 2008

Join us in this 10-day celebration of winter! Albertans can enjoy a free night of night skiing at Banff's Mount Norquay! You won't want to miss the beautiful sounds of world-renowned violinist Phillipe Graffin. Family fun is also plentiful with such activities as cardboard sled racing, snowshoeing, an iron chef challenge, spelling bee to mention just a few!
FEBRUARY
CANMORE WINTER CARNIVAL Dates: February 12-27, 2008 Location: Canmore
The winter carnival usually lasts 10 days and is a great time to celebrate life in the mountains with lots of mountain activities such as the Ice Sculpting Competition, Canmore Eagles AJHL hockey games, the Rocky Mountain Ski Marathon, the Alberta International Sled Dog Classic, concerts, art exhibits, skating and curling.
FAMILY DAY Date: Alberta Holiday, February 18, 2008 Location: Banff Family Day is the name of a statutory holiday in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February each year. Come to Banff and enjoy Family Day festivities.

This is the last month to view "Secret No Longer: Mary Schaffer's Jasper, 1908 and 1911" , the exhibition presently at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff featuring hand-coloured lantern slides from an earlier time. Come and experience the beginnings of what we today call Jasper National Park through the eyes of mountain pioneer Mary Schaffer.

CANADA DAY PARADE AND CELEBRATION
Date: July 1
Location: Centennial Park
Start celebrating Canada's Birthday with a pancake breakfast and a parade down Main Street. After you've gotten your picture taken with a Mountie, you can enjoy music, food and fun at Centennial Park, and to end your special day in the mountains, a beautiful dusk fireworks display at dusk.
CANMORE'S MINERS' DAY
Location: Main Street
Celebrate Canmore's mining history by honouring the mining families! This little parade takes place on the Saturday closest to Canmore's last day of mining which was July 13, 1979.
24 HOURS OF ADRENALINE - MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE
Date: July 26, 2008
Location: Canmore Nordic Centre
24 Hours of Adrenalin is a greuling annual relay, where solo riders or teams of up to ten people compete to ride as many laps as they can in the 24-Hour time period. COme and witness or take part in the Canmore event of this North American mountain bike series.
