DON'T BE AFRAID OF SURPRISES!

One of the best vacations I've ever had was right here in my own backyard. I was lucky enough to try something you may normally not dare to think of. Here is my story:

My landlord at the time was the owner of a local horseback riding company and she suggested I go on a "holiday on horseback"! So, I set off on a six-day journey - me and my horse and the rest of the travel group.

I can remember the first 45 minutes. I was riding in the saddle and said to myself, "I can't imagine doing this for six days." or could I? I mean, I had ridden horses before, but not for six days! But you know, after the first couple of days, I really started to relax and enjoy my time with nature. No telephones, no radios or televisions just sitting around a campfire, listening to stories, singing songs and getting to know my fellow adventurers.

That was just beginning. The camps we stayed at had cooks that prepared unbelievable meals. There is something about cooking in the great outdoors and enjoying a meal with the people sharing this experience in a beautiful setting.

By day four and five I didn't want the trip to end! We saw grizzlies. We caught trout out of the lake and enjoyed them for dinner. Truly amazing experiences. How is it that I was only 20 miles away from home and yet felt like I was a world away? A different world. One of amazement. It was like going back in time.

You may be surprised at what spending some time with yourself and others in nature will bring to your life. Imagine what it is you want in a holiday to the Canadian Rockies. Dream a little... and then live a little!
