Vacation Homes
in Canmore, Banff & Jasper

Vacation homes - ever since the Canadian Rockies received a lot of exposure from the 1988 Winter Olympics, this alternative to hotels and chalets has really gained in popularity, giving people access to an active outdoor lifestyle and making it financially feasible for them to spend more time in a desired area.

Vacations Homes - A Good Option
Silver Tip, Canmore

I first arrived to the Canadian Rockies in the fall of 1987, just a few months prior to the 1988 Winter Olympics hosted by the city of Calgary, Alberta. The town of Canmore was hosting the Nordic events at the Canmore Nordic Centre and there was a buzz about our little mountain town. There was international attention from around the world and there seemed to be an air of excitement building prior to the start of the Olympics.

Silver Tip Golf Course & Three Sisters

There were many people at this time who wanted to take advantage of all the publicity and so houses and condos started to go up to host the world in anticipation of the 1988 Winter Olympics. To me, it seems like this time was truly the catalyst of what the town has become today.

In the past two decades since the 1988 Winter Olympics, two golf courses have been developed with multimillion dollar properties overlooking the fairways. And it hasn't stopped there - the surrounding mountain landscape is filled with everything from full-size homes to studio size apartment condominiums with all sorts of amenities from fireplaces, big-screen TVs, theatre rooms, hot tubs saunas, exercise rooms and games rooms.

When people come to the Rockies, they are usually looking for a way to decompress, spend some time in the fresh mountain air and enjoy themselves with activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, white water rafting, horseback riding and golfing to name a few. Some people come just to relax and enjoy the scenery and recharge themselves from their regular hectic lives. While on holiday, they are looking for a home away from home.

Now, whatever it may be that you're coming to the mountains for, there is a way for you to enjoy it and feel right at home. Why not rent a vacation home have the privacy and comfort of a fully furnished condominium or luxury home. Some of these properties are multimillion dollar homes which many cannot afford to buy. Renting while on vacation is often a viable option since it is often less expensive than staying in a hotel. Larger homes can accommodate a large family or group making them perfect for a family reunion or corporate function.

Some of the tourist accommodations in the form of vacation homes cost far less with a much greater value. Just imagine yourself looking through the feature window from the living room with its high vaulted ceilings overlooking the fairway and just beyond the fairway all you can see are the beautiful Canadian Rockies.

Imagine being warmed by the fireplace on a winter's day while preparing dinner in your state of the art kitchen. You have the space and amenities to welcome your close friends or family - all in the privacy of a beautiful home. Now, if you like to travel with your children like my wife and I do, your kids can feel at home and play without the worry of bothering the guests in the neighbouring room.

Kayaking in the Canadian Rockies

A number of years ago I took my family on a holiday to the west coast and we looked into fully furnished vacation homes. We found one right on the water with a super backyard. We came and went as we pleased, not worrying about bothering any guests. We washed clothes, barbequed and sat out on the deck overlooking the ocean. After the two weeks of staying in this house, we really didn't want to leave - it truly felt like our own home. With the one added difference; we didn't have the daily pressure of having to go to work. The only thing we had to decide was what we wanted to eat that day and what sites we wanted to see!

So, think about what kind of holiday you would like. A vacation home may be just what you are looking for. It is a relaxing experience there is nothing like a home away from home.

For those of you who are interested in only spending a day or two in the area and would like the comfort of a home but not the trouble of having to take care of all your needs, there is the option of Bed & Breakfasts or tourist accommodations through Canmore, Banff, and Jasper.
